What is Talent Acquisition actually about? Insights from Black Recruiters
Sangano Black Business Hub is hosting a panel discussion this July about Talent Acquisition. This event responds to a core challenge raised in the Sangano November 2020 report that found professionals of African Descent within Germany and Europe typically struggling to find jobs that match their qualifications.
Through bringing together four experts, this event aims to give insights firstly into what talent acquisition is about, while the speakers will share their experience of how they ended up in their respective positions. Furthermore the speakers will give advice on what aspects one should focus on when looking for a job or when looking to expand one own's team.
In addition, the speakers will share important lessons they have learnt about how employees should be treated once they are hired. What challenges do employees face in the first year of their new jobs? How could these chanllenges be mitigated? Lastly, we also look forward to hearing more about what the current trends impacting talent strategies are in Berlin.
This panel discussion will be moderated by the Associate Talent Partner with ACELR8, Chido Nyandoro. The brilliant speakers at the event are Ansela Manful, OluwaTosin Anifowose and Lucas Neto.
This is an open event. We look forward to seeing you and your community members there!
About the Speakers
Lucas Neto
Unlike most of his colleagues, Lucas A. Neto has a rather academic background. He earned a Master's degree in Philosophy at University of Amsterdam and has once considered having a career in academia. His education, though, did not help him land a job in recruitment. It was after some unsuccessful job applications and a visit to a language exchange fair that changed his career path completely. " I was somehow fed up with the whole academia anyway and did not know what to do next. Since I have always been inspired by the possibility of having an immediate impact on people's lives, recruitment was the perfect job match for me".
Lucas Neto has been working in recruiting for a bit over 3,5 years, and has already worked at different startup companies in Berlin (e.g., N26, HomeToGo, Smunch). He is now a Senior Recruiter at Hashtag You - an ambitious brand builder in the field of direct-to-consumer e-commerce which has created d2c brands like AVA & MAY and its most recent brand FAYNT. Besides his work in recruiting, Lucas dedicates part of his free time advocating for Transgender and Trans Kids rights.
Ansela Manful
Ansela started her career in construction as a Quantity Surveyor. With her passion for people related topics, Ansela changed careers and now works in HR. Ansela is a Recruiting and HR Coordinator at Wire and Co-Founder of My Career Path, a community-centered organisation with the mission of empowering underrepresented groups to succeed in the 21st century job market.
OluwaTosin Anifowose
Tosin Anifowose describes herself as a ‘candidate advocate’ because this caption perfectly encapsulates the passion she has for helping people find the jobs that they would thrive in. Overall she has about 5 years of experience which consists of a mix of project/operations management, tech support and talent acquisition. She is also a certified scrum master and her academic background in the sciences both at the bachelors and at the masters level have been a pivotal influence to her career.
The ‘Dear Candidate’ initiative is her brain child and it is a non profit that aims to educate and to demystify the job search journey for job seekers. She also hosts the ‘Dear Candidate podcast’ where practical tips to help candidates in their search are shared. She currently works as a Senior Tech-Recruiter at Delivery Hero SE and in her spare time she provides free coaching support to candidates.
