#BlackOurStoryMillenia #BlackHistoryMonth

This session of BBBM will focus on mobilization of the spine and of the pelvis. Using a combination of the Gyrokinesis Method and African dance techniques, this class aims to engage the entire body, energetic pathways and mental focus. Through a series of slow, fluid sequences we will work the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating movements coupled with the breath. This class is open to all levels of movement and can be modified to suit individual needs. We will begin sitting on the floor, move to a chair and finish with a standing sequence. By the end, my hope is that we all feel more relaxed and freer in our bodies.

Nasheeka Nedsreal, born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a dancer and choreographer working across movement, music and visual art. Based in Berlin, her work explores identity, ritual, futurism and improvisation. Nedsreal is the founder of Black and Brown Bodies in Motion, co-founder of Soul Sisters Berlin and The Blackism Collective and most recently, Santo Schwarz. She has performed extensively throughout Germany and Europe for the past eight years. In her most recent solo work, she examines the politics of Black hair in a multimedia performance entitled New Growth, which premiered at Ballhaus Naunynstraße. Nedsreal is interested in art as a place of interrogation and activism, freedom and exploration. Her work is often inspired by socio-political and biographical subjects and fuses a combination of dance styles. Further, she has worked as a dramaturg, childhood educator, fashion model and actress. She is currently a guest dancer at the Schauspielhaus Zürich. This year, she will direct and choreograph her first group performance under the working title “M/othered”, which will premiere at Ballhaus Naunynstraße.

It’s possible to attend both or only one of the sessions. If possible, people will need a floor space at least the length of their bodies with arms stretched over their heads and a width of arms stretched out to the side. The chair exercises can be done on a chair, corner of a sofa or edge of a bed. Yoga mats and blankets are also optional but not necessary.

+ This event will take place in English spoken language.
