PANEL// PRESENTATION // LECTURE
Three queer archivers and activists from three different continents will introduce the audience to their (self-) archiving and community building work, followed by an online&IRL panel discussion.
Pêdra Costa is from Brazil and based in Berlin. She will be present at Oyoun and, moderated by Sanni Est, will participate in the online discussion with Faris Cuchi, Ethiopian activist based in Vienna; and T Jayashree, Indian filmmaker, based in Bangalore.
Together, they will reflect upon post-colonial perspectives on queer history and present, and discuss upon Eurocentric models of queer representations.
An enriching glimpse onto grassroot queer movements, documented by local community members directly.
Our three guests have broadly different approaches to queer archiving, which rage from documentary filmmaking to promoting events, registered throughout the decades.
Pêdra, Jayashree and Cuchi also have different academic backgrounds and citizen statuses which influence their views and lines of work.
__T. Jayashree has written, produced and directed for International Television, Radio, feature films and Independent Documentaries for over 2 and a half decade. Her award winning work focuses on the intersection between Gender, Sexuality, Law and Public health. Her films are widely screened around the globe and can be viewed here. QAMRA is an intitative grown out of her vast collection of raw footage on queer life and movement in India. She is co founding member of Archive, Memory & Education Trust, Bengaluru.
__Faris Cuchi Gezahegn - a performance artist and an intersectional LGBTIQA* advocate who uses different media such as performance art, style activism, podcasts and a YouTube show to bring about social change and start a conversation on the issues they face while navigating day-to-day life as femme presenting non-binary Ethiopian/African LGBTIQA* advocate/refugee in central Europe. They have lived in Austria since 2017, having been granted asylum after their security in Ethiopia was compromised. They are the host and producer of the podcast “fly-ism,” which they launched through Kültür gemma art initiative, and the YouTube web series “Alen” through House of Guramayle. They are also a Fellow at the Salzburg Global LGBT* Forum, as well as the co-founder and former Executive Director of DANA Social group, the first self-organized LGBTIQA* grass-root organization aiming to improve health access and advocate visibility for the Ethiopian queer community. They co-founded House of Guramayle – an intersectional organization that advocate for inclusive policy and legislation in Ethiopia for LGBTIQA+ community.
__Pêdra Costa is a ground breaking, formative Brazilian, urban anthropologist and performer based in Berlin that utilizes intimacy to connect with collectivity. They work with their body to create fragmented epistemologies of queer communities within ongoing colonial legacies. Their work aims to decode violence and transform failure whilst tapping into the powers of resilient knowledge from a plethora of subversive ancestralities that have been integral anti-colonial and necropolitical survival.

The program sets to investigate the embodied memories and identities through diasporic and gender-critical perspectives. The body emerges as a changing relationship and at the same time unfolds as an ethical horizon and challenge for the (un)making of the self, identity, and belonging. “Embodied Temporalities’ will unravel the possibilities by the means of the language of art while exploring and diversifying collaborations through intersectional, anti-fascist, and decolonial perspectives.

Built in 1865, the former brewery is now called Oyoun and serves as an antidisciplinary epicenter focusing on decolonial, queer*feminist, migrant and diasporic arts and culture.

There is an elevator and wheelchair accessible entrance to the building. There are silent areas and staff members to guide you through the space. Whilst the bathrooms are gendered by law, we encourage guests to use whichever facilities they identify with. Bathroom policing will not be tolerated.
