Black Reels Film Festival
Black Art Action Berlin (BAAB) is a collective of black, African and Afro-diasporic artists based in Berlin. We use our platform to support black communities and people in Germany through art and activism. The Black Reels Film Festival (BRFF) is an event for black filmmakers and film lovers to network and exchange ideas.
A wealth of different short films and stories await you at the BRFF that will make you want more. We hope that you will find yourself in these films dealing with topics like love, movement, connection, queerness and identity.
You can choose from the following short film sections: "Love and Freedom", "We Invented Embodiment" and "The Work We Do". Our feature film section shows a film by the director and associate professor at UC Davis, Branwen Okpako.
We also invite you to the world premiere of the two short films "Falling into the Light" and "Meditation on Memory and Ancestral Access", which were made during our first Black Reels Filmmaking Workshop. Afterwards, the workshop participants, black filmmakers from all over Germany, will hold a panel discussion to share their experiences.
We're hosting a meet and greet brunch for black creatives to connect with professionals in the black film industry. Comes with an open mind, questions and space in the stomach. Representatives of the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg will come to us exclusively for this event to provide insights and answer questions. Please note the limited number of participants! Register as soon as possible.
In addition, we will also host a panel discussion with black voices from the German culture industry.
Come to network, make contacts, exchange ideas and experience films in which we have control over our narration.
*** No problem if you cannot participate! We will distribute the films and panel discussions on our website blackartactionberlin.de. You can spread yours with friends, family and acquaintances all over the world. Please write us an e-mail at blackartactionberlin@gmail.com if you would like to find out more about it.
*** COVID-19 regulations: Before entering ACUD MACHT NEW, we ask you to either prove a negative COVID-19 antigen test or to provide proof that you have received the COVID-19 vaccination (x2 vaccinations). In addition, masks must be worn on the entire site.
*** Due to the COVID-19 regulations, the capacity of the BRFF is limited. We want to accommodate as many people as possible. So please only select three films if you want to see more than one section. We would like primarily to give black people the opportunity to participate in the BRFF. Please take this into account when registering for the event. Send us an email at blackartactionberlin@gmail.com if you have any questions.
*** We also want the BRFF to be accessible primarily to black communities in Germany, so the ticket price is "donation-based". We would like to continue this work in the future, so please donate what you can. Any amount is welcome.
