Brent Wesley Drummond designs projects dedicated to improving the welfare of refugees, asylum seekers, migrants, and stateless persons. His interventions focus primarily on the needs of survivors of gender-based violence. He is a former legal counselor at Lawyers for Human Rights (Johannesburg), former legal advisor at St. Andrew’s Refugee Services (Cairo), and former assistant to the United Nations International Law Commission’s Special Rapporteur on the Protection of Persons in the Event of Disasters. He is currently based in Berlin where he is building a social enterprise that employs community based solutions for problems facing refugee communities.
Brent received a JD from Harvard Law School, an MSc in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies from the University of Oxford, and an AB from Dartmouth College. He is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), a 2014 Chayes International Public Service Fellow, a 2015 Harvard Human Rights Program Fellow, and a 2015 Harvard Law Academic Fellow. Brent is also a visual artist, exhibiting his work under a pseudonym.
