Black Brown & Vocal: Racism in the Healthcare System
Group Talk with Felicia Lazaridou
Access to healthcare is a basic human necessity. On top of that, doctors sign an oath to care for everyone who presents themselves. Due to this, healthcare professionals, but doctors especially, have a very high status in society. Which means it is extremely difficult to criticize them, because society understands them as intrinsically good. Within this context, of appreciating their importance in terms of care and support, it is still possible – and necessarily actually – to recognize instances of racism in healthcare settings and to decide to act against it. In this session, we will talk through racist experiences in healthcare and what we can do to challenge institutional racism.
