BLACK DADS LISTENING
BLACK DADS LISTENING x SHINGA MBARAGA [LIVE]
Lise Meitner Straße 39-41, 10589 Berlin
1st of December, starting 8 p.m.
We look forward to Shinga's story as a Black father - his life story in Rwanda, France and Germany. His memories of stargazing in Africa, his father's VHS collection and movie nights with his mother and now his daughter. And on his experiences as a Black officer in the German armed forces.
With the BLACK DADS LISTENINGS, we break with the fast-moving, impulsive and often unbridled discussion world of the internet, which is characterised by hate speech. Our work focuses on the autobiographical life stories of Black fathers in a majority white society in Germany.
The BLACK DADS LISTENINGS will be held at the [aa]imba Gallery in Berlin. For about 60 minutes, we will listen to the life stories of Black fathers in Germany. The event will be hosted by MITU, Healing Artist and Andrew, Co-Founder BDG.
In cooperation and supported by YERO ADUGNA ETICHA (BLACK IN BERLIN . Photography) we will also present the audio-visual art project WE IN PROGRESS (WIP). In a 10-minute video, several life stories of Black fathers in Germany merge with each other. By combining voice recordings and photography, we create a monologue-like, multi-layered scenario. (WIP) thus creates a realistic, tangible and empathy-building space full of Black life stories.
Exhibited at the Architecual Biennale in Venedig 2021, WE IN PROGRESS was part of the artwork "100 Ways to Say We". In 2023 BLACK DADS GERMANY will make an artistic contribution to the DORTMUND GOES BLACK Festival with WORK IN PROGRESS.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a monologue event! We would like to have a mindful and respectful interaction. No questions to the guest will be allowed unless he asks for it. Our guest should feel comfortable and decides which part of his life story he wants to share with us and which not. The BLACK DADS LISTENING will be held in German.
ATTENTION: This series of events is open to everyone! We look forward to seeing you.
