Afro Cuban dance therapy at the Victoriapark
Dancing can be much more than just movements and this is the underlying essence of dance motion therapy (DMT) where we aim at reaching a level of consciousness in our dancing which would have positive effects on our physical as well as mental wellbeing, also possibly dealing with the spiritual connotations of dancing individually and together as a group. In times of the Corona-lockdown we are faced with having no better location choice than the park, should we dance regularly as we did before. However, somehow there is no better place than the open-air nature for an effective and memorable dance session. Welcome back!
The Afro Cuban dances and dance-friendly music styles are ubiquitous in popular culture after having reached global status some 70 years ago. They appear in many forms: original, fusion, and sometimes hidden yet „branded“ forms which you, the neophyte Westerner, may only faintly recognize as Afro Cuban. Salsa, latinx electro, standard mambo, etc., I am sure you get the idea...Therefore, I, a Havana-born/raised dance teacher and dance therapist specialized in Afro Cuban dance, want to provide you with a venue in which you will learn, rehearse, and celebrate these dances. Our dance therapy sessions are intended for anyone interested in incorporating rhythmical prowess to their dance and body function. It is a ritual!
Please, don't be too afraid of the possible rain since it would take a bit more than usually expected for me to cancel event dates. Provided it is not like a dangerous storm I still would play and we will dance under the rain as we got water-proof equipment!
The lessons will also give you music- and dance-wise input and insight for people aiming to discover and embrace one of the most prolific sources of popular modern music and dance genres. Blended in the lessons without a particular sequence, we will dance the following dance styles:
Yoruba-Santeria
Ewe Fon-Arara
Bantu-Congo
Brikamo-Carabalí
Rumba
Conga/Comparsas
Haiti-originated traditional dances of Cuba
Timba (including despelote and a bit of son/salsa)
Level: all levels (beginners and experienced dancers), always open

If it rains or any harsh wind blows we would have to cancel individual sessions, but hey, there will always be another chance!
